Turning data into medals: How Brianna Hennessy elevates her training with Insiders

Brianna Hennessy is a Canadian Paralympic athlete whose life changed in 2014 following an accident that left her paraplegic. Two years later, she found her way to elite sport through wheelchair rugby and, later, para-canoeing. She qualified for Tokyo 2020 less than two years after taking up kayaking and canoeing, finishing 5th in VL2 and 8th in KL1. A five-time world medallist – including three consecutive silver medals in women’s VL2 at the World Championships – and silver medallist in VL2 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, she won Canada’s first ever Paralympic medal in para-canoe. Her resilience, versatility and athletic strength make her a role model.

Together with her coach Joel Hazzan and the rest of the Canadian team, Brianna Hennessy now uses Insiders trackers to enhance her training and analyze her race performances.

By combining Insiders trackers with other sensors to collect a broader range of data, they monitor acceleration, velocity, and stroke metrics during training sessions. These sessions are specifically designed around measurement, analysis, and continuous performance improvement.

During races, the trackers capture as much data as possible, enabling Brianna and her team to replay the race and analyze it in detail using their software, turning every race into an opportunity to learn and progress.

“The Insiders’s units are an essential piece of training and race analysis equipment that we use every day.  It helps us measure our top speeds in training, which helps us determine when Brianna is tired or if our training is having a positive effect.  For racing the unit is essential for creating race profiles and helping Brianna properly pace her event.”

On her side, Brianna just came back from the World Cup 6 weeks ago and is training hard for the World Championships end of August. We send her our full support and wish her all the best!
